Mapping U of R Courses to SOA/CAS Exams

Based on the Canadian Institute of Actuaries Accreditation Guidelines, U or R Students can gain CIA exemptions to preliminary exams as follows.   Remember there is no backdating or grandfathering, the exemptions only apply for courses taken in Fall 2012 or later.  Full details on the CIA's UAP program can be found at CIA Accreditation Site.


SOA Exam P and CAS Exam 1
No CIA exemptions are provided for this exam (this is a general CIA policy that students are required to pass Exam P/1 through examination). 


SOA Exam FM
A CIA exemption will be granted to students who obtain the following grades

  • 80% in ACSC116; and
  • 80% in ACSC216.

SOA Exam MFE
A CIA exemption will be granted to students who obtain a grade of 80% in ACSC316.


SOA Exam MLC

A CIA exemption will be granted to students who obtain the following grades
  • 75% in ACSC217; 
  • 75% in ACSC317; and
  • 75% in ACSC456.


CAS Exam LC

A CIA exemption will be granted to students who obtain the following grades
  • 75% in ACSC217; 
  • 75% in ACSC317; and
  • 75% in ACSC456.


SOA Exam C
A CIA exemption will be granted to students who obtain the following grades
  • 80% in ACSC318; 
  • 80% in ACSC417; and
  • 80% in ACSC419.

  3. Can fourth year students or new graduates retake previously attended ACSC classes to gain CIA exemption?

    1. This will depend on the courses you are thinking about. In general, you can retake courses. However, I know that in the past students have not been able to retake a class that they already have used as a prerequisite. So you couldn't retake 217 after passing 317.
