SOA Exam Info for Fall 2012
I've updated the exam listing to show the rooms for the next two exams. Locations for future exams depend on the number of candidates registered. Also note that the date for exam FM has been changed from October 8th (Thanksgiving Monday) to October 9th.

Saskatchewan Actuaries' Club Meeting 2012
After a hiatus of several years, the Saskatchewan actuarial community met at the University Club for dinner on Tuesday September 25, 2012. Gust of honour was Simon Curtis, President of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries as part of his cross Canada tour of actuarial communities.
There were over 50 registered for the dinner, including current U of R students alumni and faculty as well as members from the Cooperators, SGI, Greystone and GMS. Simon gave a short presentation which looked at recent CIA activities and initiatives (copies of the slides are available to the right). The University Accreditation was a hot topic of discussion. CIA President Visits U of R
On Tuesday September 25, CIA President Simon Curtis spoke with students from the U of R ActSci program in the Math Department Lounge (following a last minute change in venue due to scheduling issues). There was good turn out and Simon's presentation generated quite a discussion with our students. A copy of Simon's presentation can be found under files of interest to the right.

Actuarial Club Meeting
A reminder of the two events taking place Tuesday September 25th.
1. A presentation by Simon Curtis, President of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries' (CIA) at 2:30 -? in RIC208.
This talk will be primarily aimed at students in the ActSci Program at UofR and is intended to be an interactive affair (Simon wants questions). You should think about coming if
- You are a current UofR Student in the ActSci program
- You are thinking about becoming an ActSci student at UofR
- You are interested in hearing how the new CIA University Accreditation Program will work, how it will affect our courses, and what it means to our students and faculty.
2. A dinner at the University Club from 5:30-?
This will feature a second presentation from Simon, this one looking at recent events within the CIA (including the Accreditation Program). This will feature a good dinner, and good company. You should attend if
- You are an actuary or an actuarial student working in Saskatchewan
- You are a UofR student or recent grad who is interested in meeting and networking with local actuaries
- You are interested in finding out about what's going on at the CIA or catching up with local actuaries

First Day of Classes
With September comes the start of the new academic year. The department is offering the following actuarial courses this fall.
ACSC116 Mathematics of Finance taught by myself and covering theory of interest topics
ACSC317 Actuarial Models I covering advance life contingencies topics, taught by Larry Miller
ACSC417 Introduction to Casualty Insurance and Credibility, also taught by Larry Miller
ACSC418 Econometric Models and Forecasts, taught by Taehan Bae
We also have six students out on internships which will continue until the end of August 2013.
